Hunting for Donuts
Aisle 7, 10 a.m.,
at the grocery hut.
The snare is set.
We’re waiting.
The donut man will see.
He’ll see the $20
I sacrifice for thee,
for carbs and glaze,
for chocolate filling.
They’ll be mine,
all mine, you see.
His footsteps
Squeak Squick Squirking
from the rain outside.
He sees the cash.
It’s working!
Breath held. Inward sigh.
He’s reaching down.
It’s working!
Donuts, so soon to be.
Kersnap! Clamps shut.
He’s fleeing!
My twenty bucks is spent.
Instead of gooey goodness,
I’ll have to eat a bagel--
that donut counterfeit.

Excellent tragic tale! 💯
Bagels simply just aren’t the same, for sure, lol. 🥯⚖️🍩
